What is sexual assault?

 

Sexual assault is a general, non-legal term that describes any sexual activity that is against another person’s will including:

 

  • Rape or attempting rape

  • Sodomy/Aggravated sodomy

  • Child molestation

  • Incest

  • Fondling

  • Sexual harassment

  • Indecent exposure

  • Oral copulation

  • Voyeurism

  • Sexual battery

 

 

 

 

 

 

Rape Facts…

 

  • In the United States, it is estimated that someone is sexually assaulted every 2.5 minutes.

 

  • 1 out of every 4 women and 1 out of every 6 men will be victim of sexual assault during their lifetime.

 

  • 1 in 6 boys will be victimized by age 18.

 

  • 84% of rapes are committed by someone the victim knows. 57% of those happened on dates.

 

  • An estimated 92,700 men are forcibly raped each year in the United States.

 

  • Less than 62% of sexual assaults are reported to law enforcement due to fear of retaliation, not being believed, police interrogation, medical exam, low conviction rates, self blame and lack of information.
